Check the Device Manager first (under Sound, Video and Game Controllers), make sure that the audio device is not just disabled. If the audio device is showing in the Device Manager (and ‘enabling’ it does not work), then do the following:
Multimedia Controller Driver Windows 7
- Go to the Windows Start menu
- In the Search box type services.msc and hit return
- This will take you to the Services Manager and you need to scroll down to Windows Audio
- The status of Windows Audio should read Started and the Startup Type should read Automatic
- If the entries are different you will need to change them by right-clicking on Windows Audio and selecting Properties, change the properties and save

If the Device Manager does not show the Audio Device, then you will need to reinstall your multimedia Audio Controller Driver. You can either search the manufacturers website or download a driver update tool.
